Our source register

What our wage data means
Published figures use May 2023 BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics. These historical estimates are not the latest job offers. The annual mean is an average across surveyed workers. It differs from a median, the midpoint of the wage distribution. Neither tells you the wage of a newly licensed RN.
We retain explicit geography, year, statistic, and source fields. Statewide and Los Angeles figures are annual means. Other regional data is omitted pending verification. Newer wage tables could not be verified during this rebuild; do not treat 2023 figures as current compensation.
Demand is not job security
Occupational projections describe aggregate employment, not the security of one employer or worker. A growing occupation can still have hiring bottlenecks, layoffs, local competition, or limited new-graduate specialty openings. We do not label any career recession-proof.
Education timelines and costs
General degree-duration context comes from the BRN and BLS; actual calendars depend on the school and applicant. Add prerequisite study, application cycles, admission uncertainty, licensing, and job search. We avoid a single promised time-to-employment.
We do not publish school-specific cost or approval claims outside links to the maintained BRN directory. Tuition is not the total transition cost. Request each school’s current mandatory fee and clinical expense information.
Admissions and licensure
Prerequisite requirements, course recency rules, tests, deadlines, and selection policies change. A minimum grade does not predict acceptance. Confirm equivalencies directly with programs and use current BRN guidance for licensing. RN-to-BSN is not initial RN training; graduate entry does not automatically confer NP qualification.
Calculator assumptions
The calculator separates actual cash outflow from foregone earnings. Education and grants settle upfront; monthly income and living expenses stay constant across all stages. It excludes interest, inflation, investment returns, taxes, and debt repayment. Optional payback uses take-home income consistently and assumes a constant difference from your baseline. Inputs are illustrative and adjustable.
What still needs research
Additional professions, newer wages, regional comparisons, school-level costs, application deadlines, approval changes, and program-specific graduate-entry structures require continued editorial review. Upcoming career cards intentionally omit unverified statistics. Educational content supports research; schools and licensing authorities determine requirements.
